Guitar Hero Tournament

September 17, 2010 from 6pm to 9pm. Join us for an evening of fun, food and prizes. You can pre-register for a spot in the tournament. At least four systems will be available for the competition this year. Check with Laura at the circulation desk or by calling (260) 244-5541 if you interested in bringing your own system.

Gaming Challenge - Football

Come challenge your friends to a football gaming challenge. This event is for grades 6th through 12. Snacks will be provided.
The event will be held in community Rooms A&B on Friday, July 23 from 2pm-5pm.
Registration is requested but not required.

Rock Band Jam Session

Come test your skills against the competition. Feel free to bring your own system. This event will be held on Friday, July 9 starting at 6pm. Any type of competition will be informal. Light refreshments will be provided.
Available systems include the Xbox 360, the Wii and the PS2.

Summer Reading Activies

As part of the Summer Reading Program, the Library will host a series of video gaming events starting Friday, July 12 with Creative Tween Gaming for ages 8-12 from 1pm-3pm and Teen Gaming for ages 13-19 from 4pm-6pm. Both events will take place in Community Rooms A&B.

The Peabody Public Library hosted its first gaming event for teens on May 2nd. It turned out to be a success. 17 young adults showed up to share their passion for the games. The most popular games included Guitar Hero and Halo 3. We had many inquiries on when the next session would be; well, we are having a similar event on Friday June 8 from 4pm - 6pm. For additional dates and time please check the library calendar of events.

In order to make this event event more successful, we need your input as far as what games you would like to play.

Video Gaming Challenge

Gaming at the Library

Over the last few years, some libraries have been turning to gaming activities as a way of bringing in new demographic groups, expanding their programming and as a way of creating a fun environment for their patrons. Gaming is rapidly growing into the next new media as sales of games have outpaced box office sales and are predicted to grow beyond music sales in the near future.

One quote from a fellow librarian at the Nancy Ham Library goes like this: “The days are long passed since the time that libraries were thought of as warehouses of books. Today, our profession is geared toward service, rather than storage; people, rather than products; what we can do, rather than what we have on hand.”

The Last Generation

So which console is going to assume the lead, or will there be a tie? A half decade ago, many analysts projected a close race between the Sony’s PlayStation 2, Microsoft’s original Xbox, and Nintendo’s GameCube, but their prediction turned out to be wrong: Sony simply blew away the competition with its PS2.
So this time around the question is which gaming system do you think is the best?
